Obama Authorizes "Targeted Airstrikes" In Iraq

(Washington, DC) -- President Obama is authorizing "targeted airstrikes" in Iraq to protect U.S. personnel and facilities in the country. Addressing the nation from the White House, the President said he also ordered humanitarian airdrops to help thousands of Iraqis stranded on top of a mountain after they fled a violent surge by Islamist militants. The stranded Iraqis have been in desperate need of food, water and medical supplies. Obama said the U.S. cannot turn a blind eye to potential acts of genocide.
