Texas Governor Rick Perry Indicted

(Austin, TX) -- Texas Governor Rick Perry is facing charges of abusing his power. A grand jury has indicted him for threatening to veto funding for a Texas prosecutor. He's charged with abuse of official capacity and coercion of a public servant.

Perry had threatened to veto funding for the Travis County District Attorney's office. District Attorney Rosemary Lehmberg had been convicted of drunken driving. Perry had said that if Lehmberg didn't step down, he'd withhold seven-and-a-half-million dollars. Lehmberg refused, and Perry vetoed the funds.
