Colts Add Robert Mathis to Coaching Staff
INDIANAPOLIS – After years on the field, Robert Mathis is taking his place on the sidelines.
Mathis has been given the title of "pass rush consultant/player development". His role was announced Monday, on the heels of Sunday's 16-13 overtime loss to the Arizona Cardinals.
Mathis, the franchise's all-time sacks leader, retired at the end of last season. He spent all 14 years of his career in Indianapolis.
In a feature posted to the team website, Mathis said he's excited about his role:
"This is the only place that I know, the only place that took a chance on me, so I feel this is my way of giving back. "I love this organization. I feel like I’m a loyal guy. I feel at home here. It gives my family the best opportunity for success being here."
The 0-2 Colts -- minus quarterback Andrew Luck -- face the Cleveland Browns Sunday at Lucas Oil Stadium.
