Police Find Cocaine Worth $1.6 Million in Car

10/23/2010

Two Chicago residents face drug charges after Indiana State Police say troopers found 14 kilograms of cocaine worth about $1.6 million in a hidden compartment in the pair's sport-utility vehicle.

The Times of Munster reports 40-year-old Doris Reyes and 20-year-old Carlos Lopez were charged Friday with dealing cocaine. Both were being held Saturday at the Porter County Jail on $50,000 cash bonds.

Police said a trooper who pulled over Reyes' SUV on Thursday night for unsafe lane movement on the Indiana Toll Road in Portage noticed signs of possible criminal activity.

When a drug-sniffing dog detected possible narcotics, the SUV was searched and a hidden compartment with a hinged door was found in the vehicle's interior that contained the cocaine.
