IPS Debates Possible Teacher Cuts
Indianapolis Public Schools held a public hearing Wednesday night regarding the possible cuts of 300 teachers and administration staff members.
IPS Spokesperson Kim Hooper says several ideas were brought up to cut costs so teachers wouldn't have to be let go.
"One parent suggested perhaps teachers should take fewer field trips for their students because of the transportation costs associated with that."
Hooper says the teacher cuts could save $20 million dollars for the 2012 budget.
There will be no more public hearings on the potential cuts. Hooper says the administration will draft its recommendation to the school board. The board could vote on the cuts as early as March 22.
