The Bureau of Labor Statistics has released its version of Indiana unemployment numbers for January.
Listen:
Economist Jim Campbell says the figure stands at 8.7%. Campbell says that's down from 10.8% back in May of 2009.
Campbell says the figure is going down thanks to job creation, a re-growth in manufacturing and the diversity of the state economy. He also cites the overall improvement of the national economy.
However, there's mixed reaction to the news from Indiana residents. Mary Hayes says she doesn't believe the figures. She says she was unemployed for some time and just wonders about the statistics.
Ian Boyd of Hamilton County says he believes the figures. Boyd says he's seen more "hiring" signs posted at Hamilton Town Center.
