Wiith Mega Millions frenzy in full effect, the Hoosier Lottery is adding to it with a free ticket giveaway.
Hoosier Lottery officials gave away free tickets to the first 540 players at selected retailers in Fort Wayne, South Bend, Evansville, Terre Haute, Zionsville and Indianapolis Friday morning.
At the Silver Express store at 8328 W. 10th St., more than 100 people lined up outside the front door before the ticket giveaway began. Many went inside to purchase more tickets after receiving their free ticket
At $540 million, the jackpot for Friday's Mega Millions drawing is the largest in world history.
On Wednesday, Indiana retailers sold $900,000 worth of tickets, while the previous Wednesday took in $155,000. In the four days leading up to Tuesday night's drawing, which didn't produce a winner, they sold $2.3 million.
The game's previous biggest jackpot was $390 million in 2007. The winning numbers will be drawn at 11 p.m. Friday.
