Mother Killed In Front Of Her Children
A woman was killed and her brother was injured in a shooting in front of the woman's children on Indianapolis east side late Tuesday, police said.
RTV6 reported police were called to the 3700 block of North Layman Avenue just after 10 p.m. on reports of shots fired and a woman screaming.
When officers arrived, they found a woman who had been shot in the stomach and the chest, and a man who had been shot in the leg, sitting in a car.
Two children, who were unharmed, were in the backseat of the car.
Both victims were taken to Methodist Hospital, where the woman was pronounced dead a short time later.
The woman's brother, Jonathan Perry, 21, remained hospitalized Wednesday morning with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
The woman was preparing to meet her estranged husband to exchange the couple's children, but police said they had not determined what led to the shooting.
The children were released to family members on the scene.
