As more than 2,000 Indiana Democrats converge on Fort Wayne this weekend for the State Convention, the city is ready to show off the town.

Visit Fort Wayne President Dan O'Connell says the convention is a great opportunity for Fort Wayne to showcase itself as a meeting destination for future conventions. O'Connell says the downtown area has expanded with a renovated convention center, new hotel, restaurants and other amenities that make the city attractive for large meeting groups.

Organizers have opened the Embassy Theatre to showcase the performing arts venue as well as the various products made in Northeast Indiana. Convention delegates who chose to stay through the weekend can also enjoy the weekend Ribfest during their down time from the convention.

O'Connell says a convention of this size will look great on the city's resume when pursuing future conventions. He anticipates many of the convention attendees either haven't been to Fort Wayne in a long time or haven't been there at all and will be pleasantly surprise with what the city has to offer.

Officials anticipate the convention will bring in between $400,000 to $500,000 in additional revenue to the city.
