The Democratic caucus has selected a candidate to replace Vi Simpson on the ballot for state senate.

Since Vi Simpson has been named the Democratic candidate for Lieutenant Governor, Monroe County Commissioner Mark Stoops will take her place on the ballot for state senate this November. Stoops says he's honored to have the support of his colleagues and believes his experience in local government as a county councilman and county commissioner will help him.

"Many of the things we deal with on a daily basis are things the state deals with as well, just on a larger scale," Stoops says. "And many of the decisions by the state legislature affect us locally."

Stoops says he'll begin campaigning right away, getting ready for the general election against Republican nominee Reid Dallas.
