Police are investigating a fatal shooting on the southside of Martinsville.

Police Chief Darrel Davis says one female is confirmed dead and the suspected shooter is in custody. Police believe the woman was shot after ending a relationship with the alleged killer.

Child Protective Services took custody of the victim's child.
