Indiana House Minority Leader Pat Bauer remains in that position after his caucus failed to gather a quorum Friday. But RTV 6 reporter Norman Cox quotes sources who say Bauer will be removed eventually.
"What it mostly goes back to is that they simply don't like Bauer's style," said Cox. "Some people think he's dictatorial. Some people think he's not inclusive, that he has too small an inner circle of people who who run the House with him."
Cox says the ouster might come before the November election. Barring that, says Cox, the end will certainly come when the Democrats caucus following the vote. And that might also dampen the hopes of the man many had seen as Bauer's ultimate successor, his ally Scott Pelath of Michigan City.
"And if John Gregg does well in the race for Governor, there may be a move to push this back down toward southern Indiana," says Cox. "Find somebody who's a little more conservative."
