Thousands took advantage of free health screenings Thursday at the Health Fair during Indiana Black Expo.

Antoinette Holt of the Indiana State Department of Health Office of Minority Health says most that come to the fair cannot afford medical care. "Or they have partial insurance,they have no insurance or they are people that just want to make sure they're all right, they may not be feeling good. A lot of people find out through the health fair that they have abnormal readings, whether it's from their prostate or their blood pressure is sky high."

Holt says screenings offered include glucose levels, cholesterol, and many other tests. Holt says they also offer follow up help. "They can vist our counsel referral area, they can go over your numbers with you and tell you what specifically it means because they're nurses or health educators. And then we do also offer resources to let you know where you can go to a physician or a facility that will do sliding-fee scale."

Holt says 27,000 people were helped at last years' fair, and she hopes they exceeded that number this year.
