A woman is dead after a fire in a near southwest side home Friday night.
IFD crews were called just before 6 p.m. to the 1200 block of Kappes Street, near Morris and Belmont. Firefighters extinguished a small fire in the front room of the home and found a 53-year-old woman inside. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Her live-in boyfriend was not home at the time of the fire but arrived a short time later.
The woman's name is being withheld pending notification of family. Investigators have ruled the fire accidental, saying they could not rule out the possibility of smoking as the cause of the fire.
