Rokita Faces 4th District Challengers

11/1/2012

Left to Right:  Todd Rokita (R), Tara Nelson (D) and Benjamin Gehlhausen (L).

The race for U.S. Congressional District 4 pits Republican incumbent Todd Rokita against Democrat Tara Nelson and Libertarian Benjamin Gehlhausen.

Listen:

Rokita says as Indiana's former Secretary of State, he remains the best candidate in the race. Rokita says the nation will go bankrupt by 2080 if Congress doesn't focus on erasing the national debt. Rokita says he has voted 30 times to repeal Obamacare. He says he believes Obamacare is symbolic of government controlling the lives of Americans. Rokita says encouraging free enterprise and de-regulation will aid the economy and job creation.

Meantime, Democrat Tara Nelson says bringing back jobs to America for the sake of the middle class will be her top priority. She says she'll fight to maintain Social Security, Medicaid and Medicare. Nelson says her experience as an IT project manager, president of a non-profit organization and Fortune 500 company work put her in good standing to represent Hoosiers. Nelson says equal pay is also a big issue. She says two-thirds of households depend on women as wage earners.

Libertarian Benjamin Gehlhausen was born in Jasper and currently resides in Lafayette. He says he wants to change Congress which is passing too many laws and regulations while the national debt continues to rise.
