People who design parking lots have noticed that and changes are coming.  Mary Smith works with Walker Parking Consultants, a group that is based in Indianapolis, but has worked around the world.  Smith says more has changed in the last 10 years in parking than in the last 30 years she has been in the design business. 

Smart growth is a phrase Smith discussed repeatedly.  She says business, residential and recreational areas can work together to maximize parking, making life easier for everyone.  Technology is playing a key factor in the changes in parking, as well.  Cars that park themselves, plugs for electric cars, and an app that can help locate your car, so you don't have to remember where you parked.
