The Indianapolis woman whose home exploded in the Richmond Hill subdivision is speaking out for the first time since touring the wreckage with claims adjustors.
Monseratte Shirley says she couldn't believe what she saw when she toured the damage Wednesday. Shirley spoke in her attorney's office along with boyfriend Mark Leonard. Shirley lost her home when it exploded somehow late Saturday night. The blast ripped through the neighborhood and killed two people, wounded several others and the fallout affected upwards of 80 homes.
Shirley says she doesn't know what caused the blast, but says they're not to blame. Shirley and Leonard were away for the weekend in Lawrenceburg. Leonard says he replaced a thermostat in the home, but doesn't think it played a role in the blast. He says people are jumping to conclusions unfairly and that they should allow investigators to get to the bottom of what happened.
Shirley says her daughter is very upset about what happened. Shirley, a nurse, says she has been on heavy medication this week and has been staying in a hotel.
