This year's goal was $150,000 and that mark was reached on Saturday with nearly 30 hours left in the Radiothon. Salvation Army Major John Turner says he was stunned to hit the goal so early and the donations that came in speak highly of the people of Central Indiana.
"This is to help their neighbors. This is to help people that they perhaps know that are down and need a hand up," Turner says. "It just says Central Indiana cares and we knew that and it puts an exclamation point behind that."
Major Turner says the money raised will provide 3,900 nights of shelter and 39,000 meals for those who need it. The money will be added toward the Salvation Army's goal of $3.3 million this holiday season.
