Notre Dame fans will have to wait a little longer for a national title.

The Fighting Irish were playing for their first national championship in 25 years, but their hopes were dashed Monday night after falling to the Alabama Crimson Tide 42 to 14 in the BCS Championship game.  The Irish were shut out in the first half, down 28-0.  Notre Dame scored a touchdown in the third and fourth quarters but it wasn't enough to stop Alabama.

After the game, Notre Dame Head Coach Brian Kelly said he thanked his seniors for what they've done.  "Bringing this football program back to the top echelon and now we saw what everybody else now has to do.  Now that they have helped this program develop to where it is now, we've got one more step and we saw that tonight that we're not there yet."

With the win, Alabama now has three national titles in the last four years.
