Indiana State Police say the fatal crash on State Road 67 near Martinsville Monday afternoon was the result of a domestic disturbance in Indianapolis.
IMPD Officers were called to an address on West Lake Shore Drive where 29-year-old Jeff Hopson of Indianapolis was allegedly destroying property. When officers arrived, Hopson fled the scene and allegedly carjacked a silver Buick, stabbed the driver and fled. The driver was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
About 20 minutes later, officers with the Mooresville Police Department responded to calls of an erratic driver on State Road 67 and found the Buick traveling southbound in the northbound lanes. Moments later, Hopson struck another vehicle tearing off its rear axle. The driver of that vehicle was not injured. Hopson was then spun into the path of a van and was ejected from his vehicle, striking his head on the winshield of the van. Hospon was pronounced dead after the crash.
The driver of the van, 48-year-old Paul Sharp of Indianapolis was taken by medical helicopter to an Indianapolis hospital with injuries to his legs, shoulder and head. He is listed in stable condition.
