The Indiana Department of Health says the number of flu deaths in the state has risen to 15.
Listen:
Respiratory Epidemiologist Shawn Richards says influenza cases remain moderately severe across the state. Richards says the state noted five additional deaths overnight. She says two patients in two separate long term care facilities were diagnosed with influenza. Both of those patients died. Richards says they won't identify the facilities or their locations until there have been five deaths connected with them.
She says the number of flu deaths each year in Indiana typically ranges between seven and 30. She adds that if the numbers continue to rise, they may match of surpass the normal range. Richards says it's still not too late for people to get flu shots.
