Reform groups are rallying support for a constitional amendment overturning the Citizens United ruling.
It's the third anniversary of the ruling that prohibits the government from restricting independent political spending by corporations and unions. Common Cause Indiana, South Central Indiana Move to Amend and Democracy Matters sponsored a rally in front of the federal courthouse to call for the constitutional amendment to be passed.
Common Cause Policy Director Julia Vaughn says the Bloomington City Council and Monroe County Commissioners have adopted a resolution supporting the amendment. Vaughn says many groups are asking the Indianapolis City-County Council to adopt a similar resolution.
Vaughn says federal campaigns spent more than $6 billion last year, and more than 1,000 Super PAC's were formed. Vaughn says people deserve more influence in the election process than corporations.
