Indy's newest hotel is open for business.
Listen:
The Alexander believes it can capitalize on a niche in the Indianapolis market. Its location southeast of downtown puts it close to Lilly, Rolls-Royce and the Farm Bureau, and Dolce Hotels COO Richard Maxfield says at 207 rooms, it can offer a more intimate feel than downtown’s big hotels from larger chains, and offer personal attention to guests' needs.
Maxfield says the hotel's design is part of the marketing, with a stone-and-glass exterior which Maxfield says conveys simplicity, and a curated art collection of 50 contemporary works, including 14 commissioned expressly by the hotel.
The hotel actually opened a week before the formal ribbon-cutting. Maxfield says the design has gotten good reviews from the first guests.
The Alexander is Dolce's 18th U.S. hotel. The chain has nine more locations in Europe.
Construction began in summer 2011.
