The Department of Natural Resources has asked prosecutors to drop the misdemeanor case against a Connersville couple who nursed an injured fawn back to health.

The DNR says in a statement that Governor Mike Pence asked the agency to "reevaluate" the case after being briefed on it Thursday. Legislators, including House Speaker Brian Bosma, had urged Pence to step in.

Jeff and Jennifer Counceller had faced up to six months in jail and a $500 fine if convicted of possessing the deer.

It's up to Fayette County prosecutors to officially dismiss the charge.
