Lawrence Central High School reports 800 students, more than one third of the school's enrollment of 2500, were absent on Friday.
School district spokesperson Mary Louise Bewley blames the fights reported on Wednesday and Thursday on the higher-than-average absenteeism. But she tells RTV6 that Friday's two-hour delay and the fact that it was Friday were also factors.
Bewely says the suspected instigator of the trouble Wednesday hasn't been in class since then. That student's name has been given to the Marion County Prosecutor's office for consideration of possible charges.
