Is the Sunday Alcohol Bill Dead?

2/13/2013

It looks like the bill proposing Indiana allow alcohol sales on Sunday is dead in Committee. The Public Policy Committee failed to meet Wednesday thereby not voting on the measure.

Public Policy Committee chair Bill Davis (R-Portland) has not stated anything publicly, but unless he calls a committee meeting out of sequence before next Tuesday for a vote, the bill will not move to the House floor.

The bill's author, Rep. Sean Eberhart (R-Shelbyville) says although he has not heard directly from Davis, he is still hopeful the committee will meet and move the measure to the full house for discussion. Eberhart says the bill's supporters presented a fair and valid arguement in committee as to why sales should be allowed.

Eberhart says the measure should move to the full House for a debate to determine whether or not it is in the best interest of the state.
