A man was shot to death in his driveway in Southport around 8 a.m. Wednesday.

The victim of the shooting was on a cell phone moments before the shooting, talking to his wife who was inside their house in the 3300 block of Babette Court.  When the call disconnected, she called police for help. Indianapolis Metro Police (IMPD) have not yet released his name.

The home where the shooting occured is about half a mile from Southport Elementary School. The school diverted 9 buses scheduled to drop kids off and put the school on lockdown until police determined no suspects were in the area. A Perry Township Schools spokesman says the children were not in danger, but they were playing it safe during the investigation.
