The Department of Defense announced over 800,000 civilian employees could face furloughs if the federal sequester takes place.
Listen:
Federal military properties in Indiana like Grissom Air Reserve base would likely be affected. Grissom employs more than 600 civilians on base. The combined payroll for civilians and military personnel is $71.2 million annually. Grissom officials say the Air Force is still working through the details.
Base officials say the likely scenario would be for all civilian employees to be reduced from a 5-day to a 4-day work week from April to December. Other properties associated with the Department of Defense would likely face the same or similar scenarios.
