State Representative Says Committee Defining 'Medicaid Expansion'
Indiana Rep. Edward Clere says when it comes to implementing healthcare reform in Indiana, the House might choose to emulate a model adopted by Arkansas.
The Republican is chairman of the House Public Health Committee. He says Arkansas has conceptual approval from the federal government for a premium support model. That means it would use its Medicaid allocation under the expansion to buy private insurance for residents.
Still, he says his committee must get a handle on what constitutes a "Medicaid expansion" for Indiana and whether the state's successful HIP program can be part of the equation.. Clere presided over an initial committee hearing on a pending bill Wednesday. He says the goal is to have their measure back in committee for possible amendment Monday.
