Richmond Hill Suspect Charged In Murder For Hire Plot

3/28/2013

The Marion County Prosecutor's office has filed a conspiracy to commit murder charge against one of the suspects in the Richmond Hill explosion.

Listen:

Terry Curry says Mark Leonard orchestrated a murder for hire plot. Curry says Leonard befriended someone in the same cell block in the Marion County Jail. Curry says that person cooperated in an undercover probe that involved Leonard ordering a hitman to kill a potential witness in the Richmond Hill explosion case.

Curry says Leonard had telephone conversations with the hitman - an undercover agent with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives - and agreed in writing to pay the "hitman" $15,000 to take care of the witness. The money would've been payable upon Leonard's release from jail. Curry says Leonard also stated he would kick in another $5,000 if the hitman made it look like a suicide.

Curry says they recorded the phone calls implicating Leonard. He also says Leonard drew a map that included the target's home. Curry says the target of the hit - identified as MD - is fine. No word yet on Leonard's initial court appearance on the new charge. However, a pre-trial conference for Leonard, his brother Bob Leonard Jr. and Monserrate Shirley is set for April 10 at 1:30 pm in Court 3. The trio faces numerous charges in the November 2012 explosion that killed two and damaged dozens of homes.
