New Yorkers Arrested for Credit Card Fraud in Southern Indiana

4/24/2013

Five New Yorkers are caught in Southern Indiana, in a multi-state credit card fraud ring.

U.S. Attorney Joseph Hogsett says the five had used fake cards as they fanned out west from New York. After they were used to buy cigarettes at Sam's Clubs in Lexington and Louisville, Kentucky, company security was put on alert. When they tried to use the cards at the Clarksville store, employees called police.

Officers found the five at a nearby restaurant, and a search of their car turned up hundreds of fake cards. Secret Service Special Agent in Charge of Kentucky Paul Johnson says the fraud is at least $150,000, and could go higher. He also says $150 in counterfeit money was also found. The investigation continues.
