Indy Ministers Seeking Answers On Proposed IPS Layoffs

A group of Hoosier ministers has big concerns about Indianapolis Public School administration.

Rev. Ray Ware of the Baptist Minister's Alliance of Indianapolis says they have questions about education, athletics and safety. Rev. Ware says they're especially concerned about the proposed layoff of 59 IPS employees. Ware says they believe 80-percent of the touted layoffs are likely to be African-American.

He says if that figure ends up being the case, it's unfair and has the potential to adversely affect many black IPS students. Ware says they're also worried about the possible impact on teachers and staff. He says they still haven't received clear indication from interim Superintendent Peggy Hinckley on what may be planned for district. Ware says they have no issue with Hinckley, they simply want answers.
