Former Governor Mitch Daniels remembers the late Governor Otis Bowen as a man of integrity.
Daniels, now serving as president of Purdue University, says Bowen carried the mentality of a medical doctor throughout his political career. He says Bowen had a sense of a caring person with quiet modesty and integrity who never lost that personal touch.
Daniels says he was the first to suggest Bowen to possibly be the secretary of health and human services under the Reagan administration, calling Bowen an easy choice. He says Bowen also laid the groundwork for the cap on property taxes which came during Daniels' administration.
Daniels says he believes there will always be a market for people like Bowen in today's political landscape.
