Four people were injured in a crash on U.S. 40 in Greenfield Friday afternoon.

Officials said the accident involved a Hancock County Sheriff's vehicle and two other vehicles.

Hancock County Sheriff's Capt. Robert Campbell says Deputy Jacob Lewis was on patrol about 3:30 p.m. Friday when he stopped to help a driver whose pickup truck was on the grass median of U.S. 40 near 400 East.

Another car then veered off the highway and struck the police car, shoving it into the truck.

Campbell said Lewis, the truck driver, the car driver and a passenger in the car all were injured and were taken to an Indianapolis hospital.

Officials told RTV6 the truck driver, a woman, was pinned between her truck and the officer's car.

Campbell said the car's driver and passenger apparently fell asleep while returning from a long trip.
