Brooks Introduces "Respecting the Institution of Congress Act"
Indiana 5th District Congresswoman Susan Brooks has introduced a bill which would eliminate pension benefits for members of Congress convicted of felonies.
It's called the Respecting the Institution of Congress Act. Brooks says under the bill, any members of Congress who are convicted of a felony either while in office or after they leave office would lose their pension benefits, paid for by taxpayers.
The bill would only apply to current and future members of Congress. Brooks says one of the goals of the bill is to help restore confidence among the American people in their elected officials.
Brooks says she's trying to show the American people that they are in Washington for the right reasons and do the service for the people and not themselves. She says everyone in Congress needs to hold themselves more accountable.
