INDYCAR has announced they are opening the door to increased technical innovation and to improve safety for the sport.
Hulman & Company CEO Mark Miles say they realized the new car has led to improved racing and faster speeds, so they feel it's time to increase technology and safety at the same time.
INDYCAR President of Operations and Competition Derrick Walker will responsible for finding specific technology improvements and making sure they're implemented to improve speed. Miles and Walker say there have been breakthroughs in INDYCAR speeds over the years, but it's been 17 years since Arie Luyendyk set the last record at Indianapolis.
Walker says an advisory committee is already looking at the rules to open up the sport and key experts will be advising INDYCAR on ways to improve safety.
