Worker Hospitalized After Foot Gets Trapped Under Pallet

A man is in the hospital with a serious foot injury after his foot became trapped under a loaded pallet at a self storage unit on the city's west side.

Mike Pruitt with the Wayne Township Fire Department says firefighters were called to the Access Self Storage location in the 8500 block of Rockville Road on a report of a person trapped under a forklift.  Firefighters found the man with his left foot trapped under a pallet loaded with dry goods.

Pruitt says the man was rolling the pallet from the inside of a semi truck onto a lift gate using a motorized pallet jack.  As the man rolled the pallet onto the lift gate, the load shifted, knocking him off the lift gate and trapping his foot under the pallet.  The man was hanging upside down as a result.

Crews were able to stabilize the load and use airbags to free the man's foot.  He was taken to IU Health Methodist Hospital with a serious foot injury.  Pruitt says the man was conscious throughout the incident.
