An unidentified man is in the hospital after being hit by an SUV while riding his bicycle on the city's northwest side Monday night.

IMPD Officer Kendale Adams says officers were called to the 4700 block of Georgetown Road around 8:20 on a report of a serious bodily injury accident.  When they arrived, officers found the victim suffering from severe trauma.  He was taken to IU Health Methodist Hospital in critical condition.

Adams says the driver of the SUV, 27-year-old Dustin Lay of Indianapolis, told investigators he was driving southbound on Georgetown when he hit the bicyclist.  Lay said he did not see the victim when the accident happened.

Lay remained at the scene until emergency crews arrived and is cooperating with investigators.  Adams says alcohol does not appear to have played a role but Lay was offered a standard blood draw.

The Marion County Prosecutor's Office will review the facts of the incident and determine if any charges will be filed.
