The trial of William C. Gibson is underway in Floyd County.
Gibson is charged with capital murder following his arrest in April 2012 for the slayings of family friend 75-year-old Christine Whitis of Clarksville, 35-year-old Stephanie Kirk of Charlestown and 44-year-old Karen Hodella of Port Orange, Florida. Authorities found Whitis' body in Gibson's garage and Kirk's body in the backyard. They say Hodella was fatally stabbed in 2002 and her body was found in Clarksville near the Ohio River.
Floyd County Prosecutor Keith Henderson is not seeking the death penalty in the Hodella case. 55-year-old Gibson is currently on trial for the Whitis slaying. Trial is expected in the Kirk death next year.
Jurors hearing the current case are sequestered and hail from Dearborn County, Kentucky near Cincinnati.
