Riley Hospital Launches Child Obesity Program
By Don Riley
10/22/2008

Riley Hospital for Children has a new child obesity program called "POWER", or Pediatric Overweight Education and Research.

The POWER program offers a comprehensive approach to help families and their health care providers control child obesity.

The program operates on a referral basis and involves personal access to Riley specialists, medical evaluations and lifestyle modification.

Ann Graves with Riley says a good way to screen your child for obesity is to calculate their body mass index. She says there's a great BMI calculator on the Centers for Disease Control's web site at cdc.gov.

If you think your child needs help, Graves recommends seeing your primary care physician first.
