17-Year-Old Boy Faces A Murder Charge In Shooting Death Of Indy Man

Police say the teenager shot and killed James Butler, 22, on the city's near northside Friday night.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- A teenager is accused of shooting and killing an Indianapolis man.

According to IMPD, a 17-year-old boy shot and killed James Butler, 22, Friday night in the 500 block of West 28th Street on the city's near northside.  Butler was dead by the time medics arrived on the scene.

The teen was arrested in Jackson County and preliminarily charged as juvenile.  The Marion County Prosecutor will decide whether the boy will be charged as an adult.

Following Butler's murder, his mother joined members of the Indianapolis Ten Point Coalition for a small rally Sunday afternoon at the corner of West 29th and Martin Luther King, Jr. Streets.  That rally was to demand the city's mayor and other elected leaders to address the city's murders, as well as youth violence.

"I just pray to God that I get justice for my son," said Butler's mother, Samantha Butler.  "That's all I'm asking for."
