US Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl has received a dishonorable discharge but will avoid prison time for desertion and misbehavior after abandoning his outpost in 2009.

Prosecutors had requested a 14-year prison term following a week of emotional testimony from the survivors who were wounded during missions to find Bergdahl after he left the base in June 2009. Bergdahl's defense team has asked for no prison time.

Former Military Colonel Kurt Schlichter expressed extreme disgust at the decision when he spoke with WIBC host Tony Katz.

Schluchter:

I'm absolutely stunned. It's an outrage and the military should be ashamed.

We have a Navy that can't sail its ships; we have a United States Army Military Academy that is graduating people who are openly communist and anti-American. And now a man who betrays his country, who deserts his men in the face of the enemy, who gets men killed and wounded, gets no jail time!

Our military is more broken than I ever feared possible. I'm stunned and disgusted.

Colonel Schlichter also discussed what he sees as a decline in the military culture and its internal standards. Click below to check out the full interview:
