State Senator Jim Merritt Says He's Being Considered For Drug Czar Position By Trump Administration

Merritt tells 93 WIBC's Rob Kendall that he "there is some truth" to the rumor that he is among those being vetted for the position.

INDIANAPOLIS -- Republican State Senator Jim Merritt of Indianapolis has confirmed to 93 WIBC's Rob Kendall that he’s being considered by the Trump administration to be the nation’s new Drug Czar.

As a guest on Kendall's "Capitol Happenings" podcast, Merritt says "there is some truth to it" concerning a rumor that he is among those being vetted for the position.

"I don't know where the process is.  People today have told me that they have called Washington on my behalf.  [It was] someone unbeknowst to my circle, and that's an enormous compliment," says Merritt.

"I don't know how serious this is.  I definitely didn't put my name in," according to Merritt.

If selected for the position, Merritt would help develop drug control policies for the federal government.
