INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- A 16-year-old has been arrested and charged with murder in connection with a deadly fire in Pike Township Thursday evening.

Firefighters were called to the home in the 7200 block of Highland Road just before 11 p.m.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department detectives say one adult and two children evacuated from the home before firefighters arrived but a second adult was still inside the home.

Pike firefighters were able to rescue the man, identified as Jason Doan, 45, and he was sent to Eskenazi Hospital in critical condition. He later died from his injuries.

Homicide detectives arrested a 16-year-old with the help of the Adams County Sheriff's Office and the Decatur Police Department. The teen is charged with murder, arson and auto theft.

The Marion County Prosecutor's Office will review the case and make a charging decision.

The fire and death remain under investigation by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police and Indianapolis Fire Department.
