Church Shooting in Texas: At Least 26 People Dead, 30 Hurt

The man who came into the church during the morning service and started shooting may be dead.

SUTHERLAND SPRINGS, Texas-- A "mass shooting" at a church in south Texas has left several people dead and others hurt, Fox News reported Sunday. But, an exact count of how many people were killed was not available Sunday afternoon.

However, some media sources in Texas reported as many as 20 people may have been killed. ABC News reported at least 26 people were dead and 30 were injured.

The news agency and local media reported children were among the victims.

The shooting happened during the 11 a.m. service at First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs, which is about 30 miles south of San Antonio. The man who entered the church and started shooting about 11:30 a.m., was thought to be among the dead.

"We have accepted a multiple number of patients from the shooting," Megan Posey, a spokeswoman for Connally Memorial Medical Center in Floresville, 15 miles from church, told Fox News.

“Our prayers are with all who were harmed by this evil act. Our thanks to law enforcement for their response. More details from DPS soon," Tweeted Texas Gov. Greg Abbott.

Fox 29 in San Antonio reports Sutherland Springs has about 400 residents.
