Sunday's Storms Blow Through Indiana, Tornado in Jay County

The Jay County Sheriff says schools in the area are canceled Monday due to storm damage and power outages.

PORTLAND, Ind.--If you were in Hamilton or Jennings counties, you heard the sound of hail on the roof. If you were in Bloomington for the IU game, you got evacuated at 1:30, and if you were in Jay County, you may have heard the roar of a tornado as severe weather blew across Indiana Sunday afternoon.

Reports came in to the National Weather Service of several possible tornadoes. One of those damaged parts of Jay County in the early afternoon. Storm spotters took footage of a large tornado, which was partially visible as it twisted trees into the air and knocked power out.

Law enforcement reported a gas leak was caused in the northern part of the county. Roofs were reported damaged, along with other structures.

The Jay County Sheriff tweeted Sunday that schools in the area are canceled Monday:

In Muncie, the storm caused significant damage to Muncie Fieldhouse, the long-time home of the Muncie Central High School Bearcats:

In the northern part of the Indianapolis metro, a severe storm brought hail with it, beating roofs, while wind blew across Boone and Hamilton counties.

In southern Indiana a tornado was indicated by radar, as a line of storms pushed through Jennings and surrounding counties.

In Bloomington, a tornado warning caused a delay of the IU game, as Assembly Hall was evacuated and everyone ordered to court level. The game got started almost an hour late. That storm is the same one that ended up causing trouble in Jennings County.
