Anthem Names Gail Boudreaux New CEO And President

Anthem’s current CEO Joe Swedish Will Continue as Executive Chairman of the Board of Directors and Senior Advisor.

INDIANAPOLIS -- Anthem, Inc. has announced that Gail Boudreaux will become the company’s next Chief Executive Officer and President beginning Nov. 20.  

According to a press release from Anthem, Boudreaux has also been appointed to the Company’s Board of Directors.  Anthem’s current CEO Joe Swedish will continue to serve as Executive Chairman, of the Board of Directors until May 2018.  He will also serve as Senior Advisor for the company through May 2020.

Boudreaux recently served as CEO of United Healthcare until 2015.  She was a standout player for the Dartmouth Big Green Women's basketball team from 1978 through 1982, was named Ivy League Player of the Year for three straight seasons. and became a two-time Academic All-American and third team All-American.  She graduated from Dartmouth with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology.

Swedish has been Anthem’s CEO since 2013 and Chairman since 2015.

Anthem's corporate office is on Monument Circle in downtown Indianapolis.  It is the second largest health insurer in the U.S.
