Elderly Greenfield Man Sentenced To Nursing Home Instead Of Prison

Cooper pleaded guilty to molesting three young girls. But, he will not be going to prison because prosecutors say he has dementia.

GREENFIELD, Ind. -- An elderly man who admitted to groping three young girls will serve out his sentence in a nursing home instead of prison.

Robert Cooper, 80, of Greenfield pleaded guilty to three counts of sexual battery after prosecutors say he inappropriately touched three young girls between the ages of eight and ten who had been helping him with yard work at his home in the 250 block of Lullaby Court.

The Greenfield Daily Reporter says Cooper will not be going to prison because he has dementia.  Instead, he’ll have to serve the next two-and-a-half years in a secure nursing home.  Cooper won't be allowed to leave, won’t be allowed near children and will have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
