BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF ACTIVITY

1

Internship Program

 

During the reporting period, 50 students participated in a 12-week internship program at our stations. Our class credit internship program is open to college students attending an accredited four-year college or university. The internship program allows students majoring in the communications or related fields to gain valuable experience and explore potential career opportunities. Students are assigned projects that allow them to become familiar with a variety of departments and their role in the company, including programming, traffic, promotions, sales, production, business and internet/technology.

Scholarship Program

During the reporting period, our stations participated in the Indiana Broadcasters Scholarship program by way of a monetary donation and airing announcements publicizing the student scholarship program administered by the Indiana Broadcasters Association (IBA). Applications were available through the IBA and at the Emmis Communications downtown office. The Market Manager and Executive Assistant evaluated candidates for scholarships. This program awards successful college and high school students interested in pursuing a career in broadcasting with college funding.

Co-Sponsor Job Fair

On July 19, 2007, our stations, along with Emmis Communications corporate, co-sponsored the Indiana Black Expo (IBE) Employment Opportunity Fair at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis, Indiana. This job fair was part of a seven-day conference that provides empowerment workshops, career fair, resume assistance, concerts and exhibit booths from vendors throughout the country. Station participants included our General Sales Managers.

Participate in Job Fair

On February 20, 2008, our stations attended the College Talent Recruitment Day/Internship and Job Fair at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis, Indiana. Station participants included our Promotions Coordinators and Director of Staffing and Diversity, who discussed job opportunities at the stations with individuals interested in broadcasting careers.

Co-Sponsor Job Fair

On October 25, 2007, our stations, along with Emmis Communications corporate, co-sponsored the Indiana Broadcasters Association (IBA) Broadcaster Job Fair at the Sheraton Hotel in Indianapolis, Indiana. Station participants included our Program Director, General Sales Manager Sports, Events and Sponsorship, Promotions Director, who assisted with implementing the event and discussed job opportunities at the stations with individuals interested in broadcasting careers.

On January 30, 2008, our stations participated in the Butler University Career and Internship Fair at Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana. Station participants included our Sales Executive Assistant and Staffing Specialist, who discussed job opportunities at the stations with individuals interested in broadcasting careers.

Co-Sponsor Job Fair

On February 23, 2008, our stations, along with Emmis Communications corporate, co-sponsored the Indiana Broadcasters Association (IBA) Broadcaster Job Fair at the Sheraton Hotel in Indianapolis, Indiana. Station participants included our Network Indiana and Building Operations Director and Local Sales Manager, who assisted with implementing the event and discussed job opportunities at the stations with individuals interested in broadcasting careers.

Participate in Job Fair

On October 10, 2007, our stations participated in the Ball State University Career and Internship Fair at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. Station participants included our Sales Executive Assistant and Director of Staffing and Diversity, who discussed job opportunities at the stations with individuals interested in broadcasting careers. Station participants also facilitated special sessions called "Dressing and Grooming for the Interview" and “Jobs in Audio.”

Participate in Job Fair

On March 6, 2008, our stations participated in the 2008 Indiana University – Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) Intern Connections Fair held at IUPUI in Indianapolis, Indiana. Station participants included our Promotions Coordinators, who discussed job opportunities at the stations with individuals interested in broadcasting careers.

Provide Training to Management Level Personnel on Ensuring Equal Employment Opportunity and Preventing Discrimination

On April 11, 2007, our stations’ upper management was trained on equal employment opportunity procedures and methods. This meeting was directed by the Director of Staffing and Diversity. Attendees included our Market Manager, Director of Operations, Multimedia Solutions Manager, Director of Sales, Community Outreach Manager, Chief Engineer, Assistant Program Director, Director of Website Operations, Controller, Promotions Directors, National Sales Manager, General Sales Managers, Executive Assistant, Director of Interactive Media, and Building Operations Manager.

Participate in Event Sponsored by Educational Institution Relating to Career Opportunities in Broadcasting

On October 22, 2007, our Account Manager spoke with a group of students at the University of Indianapolis regarding careers in broadcasting sales.

On February 26, 2008, two Account Managers judged an Indiana Association of School Broadcasters (IASB) High School Broadcasting Competition at the University of Indianapolis.

On October 11, 2007, our stations participated in an Advisory Board for Warren Central High School radio station WEDM at Walker Career Center in Indianapolis, Indiana. Station participants included our On-Air Talent/Assistant Program Director, who discussed career opportunities in broadcasting.
