WIBC: The News and Talk of Indianapolis

Fall 2007

Fall is upon us and the weather is getting cooler but for Hoosiers, the arts continue with abundance. Here is just a small sample:

Oceans is an experience Indianapolis Zoo visitors will not want to miss. As the name implies, the focus is those huge bodies of sea water that cover seven-tenths of our world, and which are collectively referred to as the oceans. This exhibit will allow you to ponder your personal relationship with the ocean planet – our Earth. The exhibit opens on Sept. 13.

In the ongoing tradition of spectacular touring productions, Neil Goldberg and Cirque Productions have once again reinvented the circus with European flair, imaginative theatrics and world-class acrobatics. CIRQUE DREAMS Jungle Fantasy is an all-new adventure that will take you soaring into a magical forest through the air and on stage. An international cast of graceful aerialists, contortionists, vine swinging characters, strong men and balancers bring this jungle dream to life, with special effects, inventive choreography, puppeteering and dazzling costumes. It all happens on Oct. 9 – 14 at Clowes Hall.

The very first collaboration of legends Rodgers & Hammerstein is still considered to be America's favorite musical. OKLAHOMA! is an enduring classic set in a western Indian territory just after the turn of the century, where a high-spirited rivalry between local farmers and cowboys provide a colorful background against which Curly, a handsome cowboy, and Laurey, a winsome farm girl, play out their love story. Rediscover the timeless magic at Beef and Boards starting Sept. 27 – Nov. 18.

Civic's 2007-2008 Mainstage Season, featuring an entertaining variety of critically acclaimed show titles, will kick off with Elton John and Tim Rice's contemporary musical, Aida, based on Verdi's classic opera. Check it out at the Indianapolis Civic Theatre at Marian College Sept. 14 – 30.
